Message Yesterday my '91 NA failed California smog inspection for high NO.
Max is 537/494. Measured was 646/559. HC was very good at measured 11/10 ppm (15mph/25mph). CO also good at measured 0.01/0.01 ppm.
My car (bought Feb 1995) still has it's original catalytic converters & EGR valve. 140,115 original miles.
In 2009, I replaced all injectors & connections; all coil connections were R2'd also. Vacuum hoses; PCV's; etc. Wish I'd dug deeper while the Plenum was removed. Seems like the large engine wiring harness & water hoses stopped me from doing the EGR valve.
I'm hoping that anyone that's replaced their EGR valve without removing the engine (or transmission) can give me details on their success. Common knowledge seems to be that the lower intake manifold gets removed in addition to EVERYTHING above it
(Plenum; etc.) that I pulled in 2009 for the injector replacement.
So, PLEASE ! help a retired USAF Crew Chief out, my brothers !
Details, Details, Details ! Special tools utilized, cheap tricks, etc !
(Me, begging) Thanks in advance for any advice on this B*tch of a job.
